Aruki-sumaho

This is a newly created word in Japanese. “Aruki” means to walk, and “sumaho” means smartphone (yes, the similarity is not accidental). These smartphone zombies are people gazing at their screens while walking in the most crowded and dangerous places like malls, train platforms, stairs, escalators, and while diagonally crossing busy intersections. Navigating around these people can be challenging; it involves jumping and turning left and right in the most unplanned places, and sometimes deliberately stopping to let them bump into you, waking them up and making them apologize.
